Here's a recommended list of web browser extensions for Firefox and Chrome-based browsers.
These add-ons will add a more comfortable and easy experience when you browse on the web. You can't survive or enjoy web browsing without adblockers, it's impossible.Google will remove Manifest V2 (MV2) from Chrome on January 2023 thus killing Ad Blocker extensions. If you hate ads, then it's recommended that you move to Firefox or Brave. This change will also affect other Chrome-based browsers to a certain degree. In January 2024, all MV2 extensions will be removed from the Chrome Store.
AdGuard AdBlocker
Size: 38.8 MB
An unmatched adblock extension against advertising and pop-ups, one of the best of the best adblockers. Also blocks annoying ads on Facebook, YouTube and all other websites.
It actually blocks the ads. Doesn't matter if they are harmful or not, it blocks them. Even if you still see an ad that has not been blocked, you can use the extension, select the ad you want to block, and the extension will block it! I would 100% recommend when you are searching through the web!
- Blocks all ads: video ads (includes YouTube adblock), rich media advertising, unwanted pop-ups, banners and text ads (includes Facebook adblock).
- Speeds up page loading and saves bandwidth, thanks to the missing ads and pop-up windows.
- Protects your privacy by blocking common third-party tracking systems.
- Blocks much spyware, adware, and dialer installers.
- Protects you from malware and phishing.
I like AdGaurd because it's one of those ad blockers that don't advertise their "premium membership" to you. Plus, it's completely FREE. It's the best Adblocker out there, I can concentrate on the work at hand without being hassled by constant ads!
uBlock Origin
Size: 3 MB
Created by Raymond Hill (gorhill) Another adblocker for adblocking and generally protecting yourself online a lot better. It's lightweight and easy on memory and CPU usage.
uBlock Origin is not an "ad blocker", but a wide-spectrum content blocker with CPU and memory efficiency as a primary feature.
Out of the box, uBO blocks ads, trackers, coin miners, popups, etc. through the following lists of filters, enabled by default:
- EasyList (ads)
- EasyPrivacy (tracking)
- Peter Lowe’s Ad server list (ads and tracking)
- Online Malicious URL Blocklist
- uBO's own lists
However, it does not block YouTube ads!
Search this Raymond Hill (gorhill), and you'll find countless examples of his outstanding integrity, humility, and compassion in face of the opposite. Throughout everything, this guy's faced, he never badmouthed his opposition -- even complimenting them and their product. Raymond Hill is an absolute legend, and he's earned my support and patronage.

Earlier in Chrome, there was a flag that allowed you to save pages in MHTML format. Now there is no flag and this small but very useful extension solves the problem.
Keyboard Command Alt+S.
Feedreader Pro
Size: 2.5 MB
An advanced, organized, and easy-to-use Feed Reader extension - Read news & blogs or any RSS/Atom/RDF source.
With Feedbro you can read RSS, Atom and RDF feeds and thanks to built-in integration also content from Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, VK, Telegram, Rumble, Yammer, YouTube Channels, YouTube Search, LinkedIn Groups, LinkedIn Job Search, Bitchute, Vimeo, Flickr, Pinterest, SlideShare Search, Telegram, Dribbble, eBay Search and Reddit.
No more surfing around for hours every day, all content comes to you! Saves massive amount of time.
It's an excellent reader with unlimited feeds, but I would love to have a sync across computers, so I didn't have to import my feeds and settings into every computer I have, but I'm OK with importing the OPML. However, there's no option to import/export the settings, so those have to be done manually and that's no fun.
I'm also very impressed at the speed that it manages to maintain with so many features, feeds, and feed items. I still have a Windows app that holds my 1,000 feeds and hundreds of thousands of feed items, as that kind of use will probably overwhelm Feedbro, but this is my primary reader that holds my 100 favorite feeds that I read every day or two.
The full text reading and rules for notifications and retrieval are real great treats.
Image Downloader Continued
Size: 52.9 KiB
Browse and download images on a web page.
This is a fork of Image Downloader by Vlad Sabev (vdsabev). The original extension isn't updated, and this projects aims to fill the gap.
- This works on Pinterest - it downloads FULL RESOLUTION images from feeds (such as boards) instead of thumbnail size images.
- This also works on Flickr - it downloads highest full resolution images available even when the owner disabled right-click
- Also works on WeHeartIt despite the site's recent choice to place a limit on how many images you can download (afaik)
From the extension you can download multiple images at once, choose what folder they're to be downloaded on, filter by resolution (highest to lowest) & by url.
Ruffle
Size: 12.6 MB
Ruffle is a Flash Player emulator written in Rust, it runs natively on all modern operating systems as a standalone application, and on all modern browsers through the use of WebAssembly. Ruffle seamlessly plays Flash content on sites you visit. Enjoy your favorite Flash games from yesteryear!
Browsers removed support for the Flash Player in 2020. The rich legacy of Flash content is no longer easily accessible. By installing Ruffle, you can continue to experience this content as intended, directly in your browser.
Ruffle does not require the official Adobe Flash Player. Instead, Ruffle uses modern web technologies including HTML5, WebAssembly, and WebGL. When you visit a website, Ruffle replaces embedded Flash movies with the Ruffle player, displaying the Flash content directly in-page.
This is a great Flash Alternative, but all the games and content that requires ActionScript 3 sadly doesn't work. But I'm sure it will be updated to support it. Currently, ActionScript 1.0/2.0 content is supported. This allows for playing content from 2008 and earlier.
